So Thanksgiving has come and gone. I'm a vegetarian, and every year I make the same joke, "turkey's delicious, mom" and just like every single year nobody catches on....

...so apparently there's a new Leonardo da Vinci drawing out there in the world, discovered quite recently. It was purchased for $19,000 and several experts have verified his fingerprints on the work, plus carbon dating suggests it's from the renaissance period. Aside from all that, the look is unmistakable. How it's never dawned on anyone else the past 100 years that this may indeed be by the famous master is beyond me. Incredible. I was moved just by looking at it....

...I'm trying to fight of a bit of a bug, and I never take any chances with colds anymore. My immune system was compromised several years ago from too many antibiotics. For the past 4 years, whenever I get sick it lasts at least 3 weeks and completely knocks me out of commission. Plus I just can't stand the powerlessness of being ill, I've suffered from a condition since the age of 10....

...here's some thumbnail sketches from the past few days, just exercises in conceptualizing environments. I was going for a quick read, so all of these are 2-5 minute digital paintings. They're not intended to be highly detailed, or have a 'finished' look to them. The point of the sketches is for me to try and get as much information into a sketch as I can (value, shapes, texture, depth etc) within a limited timeframe so that it reads quickly.

This exercise helps you to learn not to spend too much time with a thumbnail, and actually helps you get things established in any work really.
